Meet Mckenna Coffey, ACSW
Providing somatic therapy, EMDR, and IFS therapy for adults and teens virtually throughout California
Hi, I’m Mckenna. I’m an Associate Clinical Social Worker trained in Somatic Therapy, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems. My work is deeply informed by a curiosity about the human condition and my own meditative and compassion practice.
Who I help
My clients tend to be deeply curious individuals on a journey to heal the core wounds keeping them from cultivating meaning and joy in their lives. Together we make sense of dysfunctional relational patterns, traumatic events, and the general chaos of the world, all while creating a safe space that invites their own innate inner wisdom to emerge. I’ve worked with folks from many walks of life, most of whom would identify as seekers of some sort. Artists, intellectuals, entrepreneurs, misfits, and sensitive souls are welcome!
Why I help
Over the past eight years I have been on a journey of alchemizing my own traumas, so I speak from personal experience when I say that profound healing is absolutely possible! Now it’s my honor to hold space for others as they navigate their own path. I do this work because I know that we can only offer to others the love, acceptance, and understanding that we have been able to extend to ourselves. The world needs change, and, corny as it might sound, it has to start within. So let’s get to work.
How I help
I’m a somatic therapist, meaning that the modalities I use account for the impact of trauma and dysfunction on the body and nervous system, allowing for deeper levels of healing than traditional talk therapy. I am an EMDR provider trained to utilize the modality in conjunction with expressive arts and have also completed extended training in somatic attachment, somatic sexology, yoga & meditation, and couples therapy. I also utilize Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and depth psychology techniques in my work.
As a social worker with a background in environmental policy, my work also includes contextualizing our experiences within a broader understanding of the cultural climate and systems of oppression under which we live.
Clients appreciate
I like to compare myself to a personal trainer. Sessions with me are all about practicing the skills that we want to utilize more in daily life. Our time together includes exercises to help you feel better in the moment and time for brainstorming the action steps you can take to work on self-soothing between sessions. Clients especially love the breathwork!
Off The Clock
After hours you can find me at the park with my two-year old Aussie pup, a picnic blanket, and my trusty journal. With some loose leaf tea, of course! My other hobbies include cooking, listening to a truly eclectic mix of podcasts, reading, and going to bed early. (Yes, that’s a hobby!)
